About this Elevate Masterclass: Anti Racism - An Act of Love
Anti-racism work is work of love. It's time to do "equity and diversity" work differently - that means moving towards some "Real Talk" about racism, imagining an anti-racist world, and bringing that vision into being with concrete actions.
What's included
- Anti-racism learning is uncomfortable: Most workshops leave people filled with guilt and shame. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
- Dave Chapelle and Paul Mooney:
- The discomfort factor
- Ask a black guy
- Don't touch my hair!:... and other anecdotes people mistake for empathy
- Diversity vs Anti-Racism: Subtle and fundamental differences
- Commit to change-making:
- It’s critical that we commit to making positive change ... by any means necessary
- Grounding your commitment
- Fear of commitment
- Everyday anti-racism, a practical guide:
- Skin color as a descriptor, where you are from, and more
- Asking questions about race, and practical responses
- Gather your tools and put them to work: Try suggesting one specific thing people in your sphere of influence can do to start
- Who's at the table?:
- Develop your vision of anti-racist change-making according to your audience
- Understand the resistence
- Never give up: You’re strengthening the foundation of love that can bring more people together
- Practice gratitude: Celebrate your successes, however small they are, and focus on that as you build
