An Ethical Revolution in Technology

About this Speaking Session

Most tech companies have been created to make money - they weren't created to foster healthier, happier people or society. Additionally, algorithmic bias due to overwhelming male leadership at tech companies has ended in products that are not inclusive or friendly to women and girls.

We are seeing the negative effects of that now - hijacked elections, rampant disinformation, a rise in suicide in teen girls.

That being said, there are some technologies that have been created specifically for social good - and those have engineered dramatic change, such as VR companies for DEI. However, this is a slim number.

We need to change these companies and systems to ditch the word user and reshape consumers of our technology as living and breathing humans, and position technology as a solution for life's ailments, rather than as the cause of them. This talk will explore how we can bring about an ethical revolution in technology, and change the system for the better.
