About this Session
More and more organizations are working across borders and have staff distributed across the globe. But differing cultural norms and ways of communicating can often leave people feeling frustrated, upset, or outright confused. This workshop goes through Hofsteade's research on differing cultural values, and explains differing methods of cultural communication, supported by Stella Toomey and Erin Meyer’s work. It gives everyone tools on how to understand each other's cultures better and how to act respectfully and in a way that creates productivity no matter who it is you are dealing with in any time zone. We also talk about how to effectively lead multinational teams.
This can be done in one 2.5 hour workshop, but we recommend splitting it up into a series of two or three 1.5 hour workshops in order to have time for feedback, questions, and breakout groups.
Part 1: Low Context vs. High Context Cultures, Direct vs. Indirect Feedback
Part 2: Concepts of Time, Relationship Building vs. Transactional, Cultures of Honor, Achievement and Joy
Part 3: Applications First vs. Principles First, Cognitive vs. Affective Trust
